Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu on Thursday hosted the 2025 Christmas Carol of Nine Lessons at the Lagos House, Ikeja, marking the 19th edition of the state’s premier yuletide spiritual gathering. The event, themed "The Reign of the Messiah," brought together top government officials, traditional rulers, and religious leaders in a solemn evening of scripture, hymns, and reflection. The Governor, joined by the First Lady, Dr. Ibijoke Sanwo-Olu, and Deputy Governor, Dr. Obafemi Hamzat, used the occasion to celebrate the birth of Jesus Christ while emphasizing the administration's commitment to religious harmony in the state.

Addressing the congregation, Governor Sanwo-Olu described the season as a vital reminder of the values that bind the diverse residents of Lagos together hope, compassion, and love for one another. He noted that in a state as dynamic and demanding as Lagos, the end of the year offers a rare and necessary moment to pause and reconnect with what truly matters. He urged residents to look beyond the daily pressures of life and find solace in the spiritual significance of the season, which preaches peace and goodwill to all.
The Governor further emphasized that the strength of Lagos lies in its people and their ability to remain resilient in the face of national and global challenges. He called on Lagosians to use the Christmas period to show kindness to their neighbors and to uphold the peace that has been the cornerstone of the state's progress. "Our journey of transformation is a shared one," Sanwo-Olu stated, adding that the spirit of Christmas provides the perfect backdrop for collective reflection on the state’s achievements and the hurdles still to be crossed.
The evening featured soul-lifting performances from various choirs, including the Pacelli School for the Blind and renowned gospel artists, who filled the Lagos House with melodies of praise. Dignitaries, including the Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Mudashiru Obasa, took turns reading the nine biblical lessons, which trace the story of the fall of humanity, the promise of the Messiah, and the birth of Jesus. Each reading served as a prompt for the attendees to meditate on the theme of divine leadership and humble service.

Governor Sanwo-Olu reaffirmed his administration’s dedication to fostering an inclusive environment where all faiths can thrive in mutual respect. He prayed for continued stability and prosperity for the state as it prepares to enter the New Year 2026. The 2025 Carol service remains a symbol of unity in Lagos, reinforcing the message that despite the hustle and bustle of the "Center of Excellence," the values of faith and community remain the true anchors of the society.
