Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu began the year 2026 with a call for national prayer and persistence, attending New Year services at both the State House Chapel and the mosque in Marina. During these visits, the Governor emphasized the importance of spiritual grounding and communal harmony as the foundation for the state's progress in the coming year.

A central theme of the Governor’s address was a plea for continued public support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu. Sanwo-Olu urged Nigerians to remain patient and supportive as the President implements difficult but essential reforms aimed at resolving the nation’s long-standing socio-economic hurdles. He expressed firm confidence that these "necessary steps" are vital for Nigeria's long-term stability.
Reflecting on his tenure, Sanwo-Olu shared a personal moment of introspection, noting that he has only one New Year's Day remaining in office. "No position lasts forever, and that reality keeps me grounded," the Governor stated. He reaffirmed his commitment to service, asserting that despite the limited time left in his administration, he remains focused on ensuring Lagos continues its forward momentum.
The Governor also highlighted the spiritual guidance received during the day’s events. He referenced the teachings of Dr. Bukola Oluwagbemiga, who encouraged a reliance on God, and Dr. Abdullahi Jebe, who spoke to the Muslim faithful about the dangers of hypocrisy and the power of working with a unified heart. These messages served as a call for ethical leadership and collective responsibility among residents.

Closing the day’s activities, Sanwo-Olu shared his optimistic vision for a "glorious" 2026. He offered a simple prayer for divine guidance for all citizens and expressed an unwavering belief that both Lagos State and Nigeria are destined to rise. He concluded by thanking the public for their support and well-wishes as the new year begins.
