In a vibrant display of support for the creative economy, the Lagos State Governor earlier today attended the Lens for Good 2026 Storytellers’ Conference at the newly restored Wole Soyinka Centre for Culture and the Creative Arts, formerly the National Theatre. Addressing a crowd of emerging photographers and filmmakers, the Governor emphasized that visual narratives are not merely for entertainment, but serve as vital tools that inspire, educate, and connect global communities.

The Governor highlighted the profound psychological impact of storytelling, noting that the images and films produced by Nigerians shape both international perceptions of the country and our own sense of identity. He remarked that the dialogues held during the conference underscored a critical truth: the stories chosen for the screen and lens reflect the current values of society and the aspirations of who Nigerians wish to become.

Central to the visit was the revitalization of the National Theatre itself. Seeing the iconic structure bustling with young creators, the Governor explained that the massive investment in the restoration project was a strategic move to provide a "home" for the next generation. He urged the youth to recognize the weight of their craft, stating that with the talent to tell stories comes the immense responsibility to tell them with authenticity and purpose.

The atmosphere at the event was further buoyed by the sight of the Lagos Blue Line Rail visible from the theatre’s rooftop. The Governor pointed to the train’s consistent daily operations as a "true success story" of Lagos infrastructure, framing it as a physical manifestation of the progress and reliability that the state aims to project through its creative and developmental efforts.

The conference concluded with a call for continued collaboration between the government and the creative sector. As the Governor left the premises, he reiterated the administration's commitment to ensuring that African storytellers have the resources and spaces necessary to excel on the world stage, urging the audience to "keep telling our stories together
