The Lagos State Government on Sunday held the 26th edition of its Annual Thanksgiving Service at the Tafawa Balewa Square (TBS), bringing together thousands of residents, religious leaders, and top government officials in a grand display of faith and unity. This year’s event, themed "Grateful for Unfailing Mercies" and inspired by the biblical text of Lamentations 3:22–23, served as both a spiritual milestone and a platform for the administration to outline its ambitious roadmap for the final full year of Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu’s second term.

In his keynote address, Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu expressed profound gratitude for the peace sustained in the state despite global and national economic headwinds. Reflecting on the "unfailing mercies" that have seen Lagos through various challenges, the Governor emphasized that 2026 would be a "glorious and significant year" for all Lagosians. He urged the citizenry to remain resilient and supportive of the government’s efforts, noting that the collective strength of the people remains the engine room of the state’s progress under the #AGreaterLagosRising vision.

Turning to the administration's developmental agenda, Governor Sanwo-Olu promised an unprecedented wave of project commissions across the five IBILE divisions. He listed several landmark infrastructures nearing completion, including the Ojo General Hospital, the Odo Iya-Alaro Link Bridge, the new Massey Children’s Hospital, and the Central Food Security Systems and Logistics Hub in Epe. He reaffirmed that his government remains strictly aligned with the T.H.E.M.E.S+ Agenda and the "Renewed Hope" mandate of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to ensure that the dividends of democracy reach the grassroots.

The service featured soul-stirring performances from renowned gospel ministers, including Yinka Alaseyori and Kunle Adeolu, whose ministrations enlivened the atmosphere and led the congregation in intense sessions of praise. Intercessory prayers were offered for the continued prosperity of Nigeria, the safety of Lagos residents, and divine wisdom for leaders at all levels. Prominent dignitaries in attendance included the First Lady, Dr. Ibijoke Sanwo-Olu; Deputy Governor, Dr. Obafemi Hamzat; Speaker of the House of Assembly, Mudashiru Obasa; and various traditional rulers and spiritual heads.

The event, organized by the Ministry of Home Affairs, concluded with a renewed sense of hope as the Governor vowed not to relent in his efforts to drive inclusive growth in transportation, health, and agriculture. As the 26th edition came to a close, the prevailing sentiment among attendees was one of optimism, with many echoing the Governor’s belief that through gratitude and hard work, Lagos State is destined for even greater heights in the coming months.
