The vibrant Eyo Osha Agere procession was officially received today at Lagos House, Ikeja, by the Commissioner for Home Affairs, Hon. Ibrahim Layode. Representing Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, the Commissioner welcomed the traditional troupe as part of the buildup to the state's historic cultural festivities. The event was a colorful display of the rich heritage that defines Lagos.

This procession marked the successful conclusion of the "Ijade Opa," a vital pre-festival rite. These traditional ceremonies are essential prerequisites for the Adamu Orisha (Eyo) celebrations, ensuring that all ancestral protocols are observed. The successful completion of these rites signals that the city is ready for the main event.
The Eyo Festival is one of the most prestigious and oldest cultural celebrations in Nigeria, deeply rooted in the history of Lagos Island. It serves as a moment of unity, bringing together various "Orishas" and "Igas" (palaces) in a synchronized display of dance and tradition. The festival attracts thousands of tourists and residents alike to the heart of the city.
The grand finale of the festival is scheduled to take place this Saturday, December 27, 2025. The historic Tafawa Balewa Square (TBS) will serve as the primary venue for the festivities. Expectation is high as the various Eyo groups prepare to parade in their iconic white regalia and traditional hats.

By hosting and supporting these rites, the Lagos State Government continues to demonstrate its commitment to preserving and promoting Yoruba culture. The festival is not only a spiritual and traditional event but also a significant contributor to the state's tourism economy. All is now set for a spectacular celebration of Lagosian identity this weekend.
