Lagos State Education District I, Agege, under the leadership of Dr. Oyetola Olufunke Idowu, has celebrated one of its brightest stars, Miss Esther Chíoma Joseph of Keke Senior High School, for her exceptional academic achievement in the 2024 West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE). Miss Chíoma, who emerged with a remarkable result of nine distinctions (9 A’s), was honoured with the “WASSCE 2024 Best Student” Award and a “Certificate of Participation” by the Nigeria Computer Society, Lagos Branch (NCSLagos), in recognition of her outstanding academic performance and excellence.

In acknowledgment of her brilliance and consistency, Keke Senior High School had earlier sponsored Esther’s education from Senior Secondary School 1 to 3, demonstrating its commitment to rewarding and nurturing exceptional students. The 18-year-old, who hails from Anambra State, also works as a domestic assistant within the Ifako-Ijaiye Housing Estate. Despite the challenges that come with balancing work and study, Esther has consistently displayed unwavering diligence, discipline, and resilience, proving that determination and hard work can overcome any circumstance.
Her inspiring journey reflects the transformative power of access to education and mentorship. Beyond her WASSCE success, Esther recently secured admission to study Veterinary Medicine at the University of Ibadan, marking another milestone in her academic pursuit. Her story stands as a beacon of hope to many young students across Lagos and Nigeria, especially those from humble backgrounds, that success is possible through persistence and the right support systems.
Speaking at the celebration event, the Tutor-General/Permanent Secretary of Education District I, Dr. Oyetola Olufunke Idowu, commended Miss Chíoma for her exceptional achievements and thanked the management of Keke Senior High School for their continuous encouragement and investment in her academic journey. She highlighted that such recognition not only celebrates individual success but also reinforces the state’s commitment to promoting academic excellence through inclusive education initiatives.

Dr. Idowu further reaffirmed that the Lagos State Government, under the THEMES+ Development Agenda of Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, remains deeply committed to ensuring that no child is left behind in the quest for quality education. She lauded the Governor’s administration for its sustained investments in modern teaching tools, school infrastructure, and student welfare, which have positioned Lagos schools among the best in Nigeria. The event concluded with applause and renewed motivation for students across the District to emulate Esther’s excellence, perseverance, and passion for learning.
