Dr. Ibijoke Sanwo-Olu has commissioned the newly remodelled Lagos State Police Gender-Based Violence and Family Support Centre, marking a significant step in the state’s ongoing efforts to enhance protection and support for survivors of abuse. The upgraded facility is situated within the Lagos State Police Gender Unit on Harold Shodipo Crescent, Ikeja, and is designed to strengthen justice delivery and provide timely, coordinated responses to cases of gender-based violence.

The revamped centre features a range of improved amenities aimed at ensuring survivors receive dignified and comprehensive care. These include enhanced interview rooms, medical and psychological support units, and a short-stay hostel for individuals in need of temporary shelter. The facility also incorporates modern case-management tools and upgraded investigative technology to assist law enforcement in handling cases more efficiently.

According to Dr. Sanwo-Olu, the expanded services are part of Lagos State’s commitment to creating safe spaces where survivors can access justice and support without fear or stigma. The centre is expected to serve as a critical hub for reporting incidents, receiving counselling, and obtaining immediate intervention.

She expressed appreciation to the Lagos State Police Command, government agencies, partners, and advocates who collaborated to bring the project to completion. Their combined efforts, she noted, have helped reinforce the state's multi-agency approach to tackling gender-based violence.

In a personal remark, Dr. Sanwo-Olu said she was honoured that the upgraded facility had been named afteir her, now officially known as the “Dr. Mrs. Claudiana Ibijoke Sanwo-Olu Centre for Gender-Based Violence and Family Support.” She reaffirmed her commitment to supporting initiatives that protect the rights and well-being of vulnerable groups across Lagos State.
