The streets of Lagos were transformed into a sea of white as Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu hosted President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for the 2025 Adamu Orisha Play, popularly known as the Eyo Festival. The event marked a historic milestone for the state, as the prestigious cultural display returned to the city’s landscape after an eight-year hiatus.

For Governor Sanwo-Olu, the return of the Eyos was a moment of immense pride, reinforcing the cultural identity of Lagosians. He described the festival as a clear expression of the city’s heritage, noting that the sight of the Eyos gliding through the streets serves as a reminder of the deep-rooted values and shared history that bind the community together.

This year’s celebration was particularly significant as it served as a memorial for four iconic figures who left an indelible mark on Lagos and Nigeria. The festival honored Mama Abibatu Mogaji, a symbol of female leadership, alongside former governors and leaders Brigadier-General Mobolaji Johnson, Alhaji Lateef Jakande, and Chief Michael Otedola.

The Governor extended his heartfelt gratitude to the Oba of Lagos, His Royal Majesty Oba Rilwanu Akiolu, and the traditional institutions for their role in safeguarding this legacy. He emphasized that the cooperation of the honorees' families was instrumental in ensuring the festival remained a bridge between the state’s storied past and its ambitious future.

As the festivities concluded, the event stood as a powerful testament to the resilience of Lagosian culture. By balancing tradition with modernization, the state government reaffirmed its commitment to preserving the Eyo Festival as a premier cultural landmark for generations to come.
