The Association of Retired Principals of Secondary Schools of Nigeria (ARPSON) recently paid a courtesy visit to the Tutor-General/Permanent Secretary (TG/PS) of Education District III, Mr Olusegun Olawale Osinaike, aimed at strengthening collaboration and reviving active engagement within the district. The meeting provided an opportunity for the retired principals to introduce the association formally and discuss ways to contribute to educational development despite their retirement.

In his remarks, the TG/PS commended the retired principals for their dedication and enduring love for education, describing it as the driving force behind their continued involvement through ARPSON. He acknowledged that the educational landscape has evolved since their tenure but assured the association of the district’s full support in facilitating their engagement.
Mr Osinaike shared a personal reflection, recalling that one of the visiting principals had once supervised him when he was a teacher. He fondly remembered receiving a commendation letter at the time, a recognition he regards as instrumental to his career growth. He stressed that the insights of retired principals remain invaluable and encouraged them to contribute by facilitating ceremonies and teaching examination classes once a week.
Leading the delegation, Mr Samuel Adeyemi explained that the visit was also intended to discuss some challenges ARPSON currently faces. He requested the use of the district office as a meeting venue and for hosting their biannual congress, which District III is expected to coordinate. He further outlined the association’s plans to organise sensitisation talks addressing drug abuse, examination malpractice, and cultism among students.

Other members, including Mrs Abimbola Ogunsina and Mr Durojaiye Taiwo, appealed for the inclusion of ARPSON members in relevant educational programmes and expressed appreciation for the TG/PS’s positive reception. The visit concluded on a promising note, with assurances that all proposals presented would be carefully considered for implementation, reflecting a renewed commitment to leveraging the experience of retired principals for the betterment of education in the district..
