The Lagos State Government has mandated all courier and delivery service riders to wear reflective jackets and ensure their bikes are fitted with visibility tapes during night-time operations.

The directive, announced on Sunday by the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Transportation, Mr. Olawale Musa, was conveyed through the Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Transport Education and Innovation, Mr. Oluwatobi Idowu. A statement by the ministry’s Director of Public Affairs, Mrs. Bolanle Ogunlola, confirmed the move.

Musa said the policy, targeting riders who operate between 6:00 p.m. and 6:00 a.m., aims to reduce road accidents and improve overall traffic safety. He stressed that courier companies must sensitise their staff and comply fully or face sanctions from agencies such as the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) and the Vehicle Inspection Service (VIS).

Reacting to the directive, Glovo Nigeria pledged to provide 3,000 reflective vests to its riders at no cost within a month. Its General Manager, Mr. Lamide Akinola, commended the state government for prioritising safety and urged other operators to follow suit.

The ministry welcomed Glovo’s gesture, noting that public-private cooperation is key to building a safer delivery ecosystem in Lagos.
