In a strategic move to fortify the integrity of the State Public Service, the Lagos State Office of Internal Audit has concluded a specialized training programme for its newly employed auditors. The event, held at the Lagos Chamber of Commerce and Industry (LCCI) which, was designed to equip the fresh intake with the necessary tools to uphold the highest standards of professionalism. This initiative reflects the state's ongoing commitment to strengthening its internal control mechanisms across all MDAs.

The Special Adviser to the Governor on Internal Audit, Dr. Oyeyemi Ayoola, FCA, delivered a powerful charge to the new officers, emphasizing that their role is central to good governance. She stressed that the internal audit function serves as the watchdog of public resources, requiring a high level of integrity and objectivity. Dr. Ayoola urged the participants to be courageous in their duties, reminding them that the prudent management of the state's finances depends on their unwavering commitment to ethical standards.
The Permanent Secretary of the Office, Mrs. Monsurat Titilope Alaka, further explained that the training serves as a formal induction into the unique systems and structures of the Lagos State Public Service. She noted that a deep understanding of the Public Service Rules and procedures is essential for the successful discharge of their responsibilities. Mrs. Alaka also expressed gratitude to Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu for creating employment opportunities that allow young professionals to contribute to the state's development.
To provide a wealth of practical experience, the training featured facilitators such as Mr. Biodun Bamgboye, a retired Permanent Secretary. Mr. Bamgboye provided deep insights into the Public Service Code of Conduct, urging the auditors to remain disciplined and loyal to the principles of transparency. He cautioned them against being distracted by external pressures, advising that confidence in their roles comes from a firm grounding in the rules and regulations governing their profession.

The training session concluded with a call for continuous self-development and professional certification. Mrs. Alaka encouraged the new auditors to pursue relevant qualifications to enhance their career progression and service delivery. By investing in the human capital of its audit department, Lagos State is ensuring that its financial oversight remains robust, modern, and capable of meeting the demands of an ever-evolving public service environment.
