Mrs. Olukemi Ogunyemi’s portfolio is built upon a formidable foundation of over 30 years of clinical experience in both local and international healthcare sectors. A trained nurse by profession, she earned her initial qualifications at the University College Hospital, Ibadan, before expanding her expertise globally with a Bachelor of Science in Health Services Management from the University of Manchester and dual Master’s degrees in Nursing and Healthcare Administration from the University of Phoenix. This blend of frontline clinical skill and academic rigor provides her with a unique "patient-first" perspective in her role as a senior policy advisor.

A significant portion of Mrs. Ogunyemi’s career has been dedicated to oncology and the development of specialized medical units. Before her current appointment, she held leadership roles in the UK and US, including serving as the lead cancer nurse at Finchley Memorial Hospital in London, where she spearheaded the establishment of the UK's first nurse-led chemotherapy unit. In Nigeria, she has served as the Director of Nursing at the Cardiac Renal Centre in Gbagada and held a directorship at the Marcelle Ruth Cancer Centre, positioning her as a key authority in managing complex, high-stakes medical infrastructure.

Mrs. Ogunyemi is no stranger to the inner workings of the Lagos State government, having served two successful terms as a Commissioner at the Lagos State Health Service Commission from 2015 to 2023. In her current capacity as Special Adviser, she is a critical member of the State Executive Council, working alongside the Commissioner for Health to channel policy matters to the Governor. Her work focuses on translating the administration’s THEMES+ agenda into actionable health outcomes, ensuring that institutional reforms lead to tangible improvements in service delivery across the state's public hospitals.

A central pillar of her portfolio is the revitalization of Primary Healthcare (PHC) and the promotion of a more compassionate medical culture. She is a vocal advocate for empathy and professionalism among medical workers, frequently engaging with health districts to emphasize that patients must be met with kindness and respect. By focusing on the "human" side of healthcare, she aims to bridge the gap between policy and the lived experience of the average Lagosian, ensuring that the healthcare system is as compassionate as it is efficient.

Beyond her clinical and administrative duties, Mrs. Ogunyemi is a dedicated advocate for women’s inclusion in governance and the co-founder of the Alfo Healthcare Initiative, an NGO providing affordable care to underprivileged women and children. Her leadership extends into the political and social spheres, where she has served as the chairperson of the "Women in Politics" arm of WIMBIZ. Through her diverse roles, she continues to drive a holistic vision for Lagos one where high-quality healthcare is accessible, the nursing profession is elevated, and vulnerable populations are protected through sustainable health insurance and community-based interventions.
