Toke Benson-Awoyinka is a distinguished Nigerian lawyer and politician who has risen to prominence through her dedication to public service and expertise in governance. Born on June 12, 1967, she laid the foundation for her impactful career by earning a Bachelor of Laws (LL.B) from Lagos State University, after which she was called to the Nigerian Bar in 1990. Her early professional life was grounded in various areas of the legal profession, including insurance law, litigation, probate, and land matters, building a wealth of knowledge and practical experience.

Her career trajectory quickly broadened to include international consulting and policy formulation, showcasing her diverse skill set. Following legal practice at firms like Yemi Peters & Co and B.O Benson Law Office, she ventured into international work. Notably, she served as a lawyer and Technical Consultant for Sprint United, a telecommunications company in the United States, and later as the Head of Corporate Strategy and Policy Implementation at Dvyn Inc., also in the U.S. This exposure to international best practices and corporate governance armed her with invaluable expertise for policy-making.
Upon returning to Nigeria, Benson-Awoyinka channeled her experience toward regional development, playing a pivotal role in crafting the Development Agenda for Western Nigeria (DAWN) document. This blueprint aimed to establish pillars for development and regional cooperation tailored to the peculiarities of the South West region.
Her involvement in such significant policy-making initiatives, coupled with her legal background, paved the way for her direct political engagements and eventual entry into the Lagos State Executive Council.
Her official entry into the Lagos State Government began in 2019 when she was appointed as the Special Adviser to Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu on Housing. In this role, she demonstrated an innovative approach to the real estate sector, which earned her several awards and recognition for her commitment and leadership. Her success and commitment to service led to a subsequent, higher appointment in 2023 as the Commissioner for Tourism, Arts & Culture, a position previously held by Uzamat Akinbile Yussuf.

As the Commissioner for Tourism, Arts & Culture, Toke Benson-Awoyinka is now spearheading a significant cultural renaissance in Lagos State. She has committed to revitalizing traditional festivals, promoting heritage tourism, and exploring new avenues like water tours of Lagos to boost the local economy and showcase the state's cultural richness.
Her impactful contributions have garnered international attention, including receiving a Certificate of Recognition from the California Legislature, underscoring her successful drive to position Lagos as a premier global tourism and cultural destination.
